To say I don't like Glen Beck would be putting it mildly. It goes back to his CNN days. He (along with Dobbs and Chetry) is the main reason I can no longer watch CNN (ok, I watch a lil' bit). Anyhow, I heard about this video where he is "crying" and blah blah. I blocked it out of my mind, because it was Glen. I looked at it yesterday.
My thoughts - in a word - re damn dick u lus.
So, without further ado.... Ladies and gentlemen, the new face of the NeoCons, introducing the NeoCon Way Forward, Glennnnnnn Beck.....

He forgot to add Bush, Cheney and Rove to his montage.
Yeah. There's quite a bit of memory loss going on there.
On another note, wtf is up with the mace incident at Manual?
Glen Beck--he is on WMBD every day at 9 a.m.--I race to the radio at 8:59 to be sure that I don't have to listen to even a minute of Beck.
I'm still waiting to form my opinions about the Manual incident. I can't begin to count the number of times student committees have been formed to discuss such issues--another one of those feel good measures that bring no results.
I guess some of the Manual students are back to pulling the fire alarm whenever they want to leave the building for whatever reason. There never seems to be a solution for that either. It happened so often during my last few years of teaching that it was difficult to get students to go out because they believed it was a false alarm--not a good idea in case of a real fire.
WOW! That was one of the most painful 4 minutes and 30 seconds I've ever sat through. These over the top conservative talk show hosts are NUTS! The right has officially lost their way.
Sad that there are really people like Glan Back out there....sadder still that they have a forum for which to spout their insanity AND get paid for it and become 'celebrities'. Saddest of all are the people who watch this lunacy.
I don't know what to think about the Manual thing. I do believe that mace for wearing a hat in school is excessive. I can also see putting your hat on before you run out the door. The officer is said to have had past infractions. The young man did not have past infractions and is an active member of the Manual student body.
It's just a sad mess and the comments in the pjstar are just sickening.
Ok, now I am ready to make up my own mind about the Manual incident. I just ran into a Manual teacher whose opinions I trust, etc. At least, with all the information I have now, I agree totally with Emerge. If indeed (and I see no reason to believe otherwise) this was about a young man who put his hat back on when he got near the exit after being told to take it off (and taking it off) when he was standing near the vending machines--then I would say that the macing, etc., was much too excessive.
In the scale of things, I am sure that other students do and say far more disrepectful things in their classrooms--behaviors that go relatively unreported and unpunished.
However, I think the adults in charge should be able to "right" this situation--to get the facts, weigh the information, and proceed accordingly.
I haven't read the remarks on the PJS site--I stopped going to that site because I am not allowed to post comments because I have a hotmail account--disrcimination, of sorts, I believe (mostly joking).
PS--I also hear that this is the first time in a long time that the false fire alarms have been pulled--contrary to my contention that it happens often (that was before 2005 when I was still there).
The comments on the article in the PJStar are disgusting. I'm embarrassed for the community.
I just took the time to read the PJS comments. Yes, most are disgusting, uninformed, bigoted, etc. However, some comments made some sense. I especially appreciated "Dennis in Peoria" (whose account of events agrees with what I have heard) and "Kimiko" (appreciated by me because he/she is a Manual grad).
There are two sides to this story--as there are to every story. Frankly, I believe there are always at least three sides--the third side being the truth (but it's hard to get to the truth).
Certainly, the young man could have avoided all of this by just doing as he was told. If everything I've heard is correct, then macing was much too extreme a response. Yes, in my opinion, students need to learn to respect and obey authority even when the authority is wrong. However, in this day and age, there are avenues to pursue to report when a line is crossed by authority. No, I don't think kids should be allowed to thumb their noses at the rules, etc. However, I also believe that adults should be expected to behave wisely--not out of anger--when dealing with young people who break the rules. These situations just aren't easy.
Although not alone in this weakness, Peoria is quick to judge and none to shy to express the judgment in the most disgusting manner. In reference to Glen Beck.... I have watched him, maybe twice, that he didn't make me want to vomit. So glad he moved to Faux News. Now I don't have to worry about seeing his garbage by accident.
